Interspan Heavy Lifting

Lifting and jacking works

Lifting and jacking operations are essential when prefabricated elements or existing structures need to be moved, raised, or installed with precision.

These techniques reduce reliance on heavy craneage, minimise risks, and enable construction in challenging environments or tight timeframes.

Our services are used in a variety of specialised applications, including:

  • Jacking and sliding bridges into place during road closures or rail possessions to minimise disruption.
  • Heavy lifting of prefabricated roof structures to reduce risks associated with working at height or adverse weather.
  • Elevating entire structures using synchronised jacking systems.
  • Load transfer to new foundation or structure using flat jacks.
  • Load testing of piles to verify design performance.

At Interspan, we combine advanced equipment with extensive expertise to deliver safe, efficient, and reliable heavy lifting and jacking operations tailored to each project’s specific needs.

Interspan Flat Jacks: Precision Load Transfer & Structural Control

Interspan Flat Jacks

Flat jacks play a critical role in many building and infrastructure applications, providing a compact, highly controlled method for:

  • Load transfer
  • Structural jacking
  • Precision pre-loading
  • Settlement correction
  • Bearing replacement
  • Heavy lifting in confined spaces

Interspan flat jacks deliver extremely high thrust forces in confined spaces, with capacities ranging from 8 to 1000 tonnes, which are ideal for both temporary and permanent works. All units are manufactured and tested to international standards to ensure safe and reliable performance.

Permanent flat jacks can be grouted in situ using cementitious grout or epoxy to provide a durable load path, while temporary units allow real-time monitoring using calibrated pressure transducers. This versatility makes them suitable for applications such as:

  • Excavation strut pre-loading
  • Load transfer onto new foundations
  • Pre-loading of steelwork and bridge bearings
  • Ground settlement compensation
