Project Description
A bold, future-focused and sustainable home for tomorrow’s vocational workforce.
The Broadmeadows Health & Community Centre of Excellence at 59-69 Pearcedale Parade is a bold, future-focused, and sustainable home for tomorrow’s vocational workforce.
The Bendigo Kangan Institute received $60 million from the Victorian Government to construct a Health and Community Centre of Excellence (HACCOE) at the Broadmeadows Campus. This facility will feature adaptable learning areas, advanced simulation spaces, and cutting-edge health and community services equipment.
Hutchinson Builders engaged Interspan for the design and construct of 4,200 square meters of post-tensioned slabs.
Throughout the construction process, the project team faced the intricate task of dealing with heavy loadings that were not centred within the beams.
This situation gave rise to the complex issue of high lateral torsion, demanding a meticulous approach to ensure stability. Corbel design due to beam extent is not shown on the exterior of structure. Overcoming these challenges was no small feat, showcasing the expertise of the project’s engineering team.
The Broadmeadows Health & Community Centre of Excellence is a testament to collaboration, innovation, and community-driven design.
Moreover, the project’s commitment to environmental sustainability is evident in its pursuit of a 5-Star Green Star accreditation. With post-tension works scheduled to be completed in quarter 3 of 2023, this project is on its way to becoming a beacon of excellence in the heart of Victoria.
Developed by Australasian architecture firm Architectus, the centre is expected to open in 2025, and the project will create more than 300 jobs during construction.
