Post-tensioning for State-of-the-Art Learning Hub in Westmead

Interspan is proud to have worked with Kane Constructions and Northrop Consulting Engineers in delivering a transformative new education precinct for the Catholic Schools Parramatta Diocese. The project centres on a six-storey, future-ready building designed to elevate learning outcomes for students across three school communities: Mother Teresa Primary School, Sacred Heart Primary School and Catherine McAuley Westmead.

Thoughtfully planned to inspire collaboration and engagement, the facility includes contemporary general learning areas, breakout spaces, a well-equipped canteen, storage rooms, amenities and an expansive rooftop play area. The result is a cohesive educational hub that enhances teaching environments and creates new opportunities for students.

Value-Engineered PT Design That Reduces Cost, Time and Complexity

Interspan’s Design & Construct team delivered a fully optimised post-tensioning solution (Area: 16,279.97 m²) shaped around buildability, construction speed and material efficiency.

Working closely with Kane  and Northrop, we enhanced project outcomes through:

  • Buildability-first design, simplifying onsite sequencing and reducing construction complexity.
  • Dual internal engineering review, ensuring accuracy, compliance and complete design confidence for the project team.
  • Enhanced drafting clarity, with reinforcement tags embedded into drawings to minimise errors and streamline on-site tracking.
  • Fast turnaround on design changes and RFIs, supporting the project’s tight education-sector delivery program.
  • Material and cost optimisation, reducing risk while improving construction efficiency and resource use.

Meeting Tight Delivery Timelines Without Compromising Quality

Interspan’s operational performance ensured the project progressed efficiently and safely:

– Tight timelines achieved through efficient design and installation workflows

– High quality and safety standards upheld across all PT works

– Delivery by CARES APT04 -accredited installation teams

– Continuous competency development through regular training and assessment
